Kathmandu tour packages & holidays
Kathmandu as a tour and holiday destination
A visit to Nepal and its capital, Kathmandu, is the opportunity to enjoy a holiday in one of the most exotic, remote and mysterious places on earth. Being the landlocked country tucked away in the mighty Himalayas, and bordered by India and China, Kathmandu was once popular with those traveling on the hippy trail to India; although those days are long gone, the city still attracts young people from all over the world and is a major destination for those wanting to climb or catch a glimpse of Mount Everest.
Things to do in Kathmandu
Kathmandu appeals to everyone, although it especially appeals to those looking for a tour package that is a little bit different, as well as those who want to experience some of the world's most spectacular mountain scenery. The country also attracts those looking for an adventurous tour, as tourism is still relatively young here, and many people find the facilities somewhat primitive. For others, of course, that is a large part of the charm. Kathmandu is also relatively inexpensive, compared to other Asian cities, and accommodation and meals are noticeably cheaper. Some of the best sights in Kathmandu are the many palaces and temples, especially around Durbar Square; outside the city, the big attractions are the scenery, the range of outdoor activities and the fascinating culture.
Best time to visit Kathmandu
Kathmandu is popular year round, although if you want to do some hiking or mountaineering, spring and summer are excellent times to visit. Kathmandu boasts some wonderful festivals; the Festival of Light takes place for several days around the end of October and features fireworks and ritual cleansing, while the Harvest Festival takes place every September. These days, there are not many places that can claim to be remote and exotic, and this fascinating country should be on everybody's list of places to go to at least once.
