The largest of these villages is Kampung Tekek. This is also the most populous village and is located in the north. Pulau Tioman, Malaysia is mainly covered by forest and has a low population. Due to the many coral reefs that surround it, the island is a popular spot for scuba diving. The island enjoys a duty free status and this is why it has many chalets and holiday resorts.

Pulau Tioman has some of the best beaches in the world. In fact, it has been listed as one of the best islands to visit in the world by Time magazine. Some of the most interesting attractions on the island include Minang Cove, Tekek village, the Golden City and Panuba Bay. Night life on the island is usually filled with fun as there are numerous clubs for the revelers. The Tioman Cabana is one of the most popular bars with tourists.

The Northeast Monsoon winds which usually blow into the island from the South China Sea can be felt on the island. They usually blow over a period of 4 months from November till February. When they blow, they bring along heavy storms and high winds. Therefore, if you are planning to visit the island, you should note that avoid visiting Pulau Tioman during this time. This is especially the case for tourists who wish to travel to the east coast of the Malaysian peninsular. Notably, during this time, most of the island's resorts are usually closed. The Southwest Monsoon usually blows from July up to September. However, this monsoon's effects are less pronounced. This is because the monsoon winds tend to hit the Malaysia peninsula's western shores first.
