Kyoto has the distinction of being probably the most beautiful city in Japan. This city is located within the mountains in the western part of Honshu. Having being the capital of Japan for a millennium, and being lucky enough to escape the bombings during World War 2, the city has plenty of historical building and monuments still standing. In fact, so valuable are the historical monuments, that UNESCO has listed 14 of them within their World Heritage Site collection.

Among the attractions that Kyoto offers in addition to the historical temples and shrines are spectacular gardens, the gilded pavilion of Kinkaku-ji, Imperial Palaces, and Villas, historic public bathhouses among other things. If you are tired after taking tours of the area, you can enjoy a bit of shopping for souvenirs from a variety of traditional stores. You can also get a taste of Japanese cuisine from the local restaurants as well a bit of nightlife from the nearby clubs. Meditation sessions are also available at local shrines. Temple lodgings and hostels are available for budget travelers with hotels being favored by high end ones.
Best time to visit Kyoto
For you to holiday in Kyoto, you will need to travel by bus, train, or car from the nearby airports in Osaka. Because of the sheer size of the city, it may be a good idea to use a bicycle or taxi to move about. Tour buses also exist to make tourists move about comfortably. The best time to travel to Kyoto is during the spring and autumn months of March-May and September to November when the cherry blossoms are blooming. You can attend a variety of festivals during this time including those associated with the Cherry Blossom Season. Others include Aoi Matsuri Festivals, Setsubun among others. Regardless of your preferences, traveling to this historic city will be well worth your money.
