Hobart tour packages & holidays
Of all the major cities of Australia, Hobart is the one taking the world by storm. The sheer number of attractions combined with the exotic local flavor makes Hobart a must-see for holiday travel. In fact, Hobart's irresistible mix of historic and new, Western and exotic has put it at the top of a number of exclusive travel guide lists including Lonely Planet and Traveler's Choice. Its location on the island of Tasmania, which is the down under to Australia's "Down Under", means that in Hobart, things are done a bit differently.
The city is ideal for holiday travel because it features historic culture by day and a booming nightlife at night. Waterfront cafes and restaurants are housed in centuries-old repurposed warehouses at Salamanca Place on the harbor. An energized arts scene and fabulous historic suburb of Battery Point provide plenty to see for the family. Another site to see is the Hobart War Memorial, a massive cenotaph dedicated to fallen soldiers of past wars. At night, restaurants feature local wine which fuels the music scene, especially at Princes Wharf, Shed No. 1. In the distance, Mount Wellington, a giant of a summit, looks down approvingly as another of Hobart's many attractions.
Perhaps the best time to visit is between Christmas and the end of January. The Hobart Yacht Race starts in Sydney on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) and ends in Hobart. The arrival of the yachts is cheered as the high point of the Hobart Summer Festival. This world-famous festival ends in mid-January, and includes the tasting of international fine foods and local (as well as international) wines. These events along with the city's excellent attractions are making it the hottest travel spot in Hobart, despite its being the gateway to the Antarctic.
