Highlights: Mt. Sorak Everland Cheju Island
Jeju Island, also known as the "Island of the Gods," is a popular vacation spot for Koreans and many Japanese. It remains one of the top honeymoon destinations for Korean newlyweds. The island's mixture of volcanic rock, frequent rains, and temperate climate, make it very similar to the Hawaiian Islands in the U.S. The island offers visitors a wide range of activities: hiking on Halla-san (South Korea's highest peak), catching sunrises and sunsets over the ocean, viewing majestic waterfalls, riding horses, or just lying around on the sandy beaches.
Ancient royal palaces and cultural inheritances, such as Deoksu, Gyeongbok and Changgyeong palaces, the National Museum and Chogyesa Temple, surround the downtown area of Jongno, which bustles with people enjoying movie theaters, stores and restaurants.
Nami Island is a Korean island on the river Bukhan (Bukhangang, on the border between Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do (approximately one hour and a half drive from Seoul). Although this place is very popular among Koreans, and can be seen in most Korean dramas (specially in romantic scenes where the boy declares his love to the girl), it’s not usually visited by foreign tourists. The island is small, but quite pretty, perfect to relax for a while and spend the afternoon walking around a beautiful scenery.
Mount Sorak is situated on the east coast of the Korean Peninsula in the Taebaek Mountain range, which is composed of dissected granite and gneiss, with rocky hills and ridges. Mount Sorak or Mount Seorak (Seoraksan) is the highest mountain in the Taebaek mountain range in the Gangwon province in eastern South Korea. It is located in a national park near the city of Sokcho. After the Hallasan volcano on Jeju Island and Jirisan in the south, Seoraksan is the third highest mountain in South Korea. The Daechongbong Peak of Seoraksan reaches 1,708 metres (5,603 feet). The Taebaek mountain chain is often considered the backbone of the Korean peninsula.
Perhaps the most visited part of the mountain is the main entrance valley to the National Park, a fifteen minute drive from Seokcho city. The valley runs west to east with a paved road leading up to the park's entrance gate. This valley contains many beautiful sites and is well worth a day visit. Mt. Sorak, often described as a "peerless, beautiful woman," has a spiky mountain peak going through the clouds like bamboo shoots, and crystal clear water flowing down from the rock formations and into ponds in the valleys and waterfalls. Mt. Sorak is often commended for both its grandeur and gracefulness.
Furthermore, Mt. Sorak's entire area is breeding ground for world's rare organisms. It was designated as the only preservation site for organisms in Korea by UNESCO, in 1982. Mt. Sorak National Park is located near the clear, blue East Sea, and is endowed with optimal natural conditions that go beautifully with the ocean.
