Highlights: English-speaking guide Elephant Camp Monkey School & Snake School Shopping at Night Bazaar & Mae Sai Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep & Royal Flora Garden
The capital of northern Thailand, Chiang Mai almost rivals Bangkok in terms of cultural heritage with more than 300 temples. The striking and historical city centre of Chiang Mai almost belies the city's modernity and size. Chiang Rai on the other hand, is seen as the more laid-back version of Chiang Mai and considered the gateway to the Golden Triangle. You will get a chance to see where the three countries of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet.
You will experience the history of the region by visiting the famous temples including Wat Phrathet Doi Suthep and Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) and other popular sights. Also see the historical city walls and moat of the old city.
Take part in the culture when you shop at the night markets or at the fantastic handicraft stores. Meet some elephants in the Maesa Valley as they show you how they work in the jungle.
You will stay at a comfortable hotel in Chiang Mai for the duration of the holiday. Everything will be provided for you including meals and tour guides so you don't have to worry about anything. Explore these popular destinations in depth and in comfort.
ARRIVE CHIANG MAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (LD)
Upon arrival in Chiang Mai International Airport, you will be met by our representative. We will then proceed to visit Chiang Mai most sacred temple, Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep which was built in 1383. Walk up 309 steps (or a tram) to the top for impressive views of Chiang Mai. It is located 15 kms from the city and 3,500 feet above sea level. View the marvelous golden pagoda which contains the holy relics of Lord Buddha. Next visit Royal Flora Garden and later check into hotel.
At night, enjoy the famous Khantoke Dinner, the traditional northern Thai (Lanna) form of dining along with performance of traditional northern Thai (Lanna dance and music). After dinner, proceed to Night Bazaar for some shopping.
CHIANG MAI (B,L,D)
In the morning visit the magnificent Maesa Elephant Camp, home to one of the largest assembly of elephants in the north of Thailand which is located on the bank of a small river. Watch demonstration of how trained elephants are used as working animals in the teak forests. Elephants bathing in the river, working in the jungle, dragging and pushing logs, and responding to commands. You may enjoy an elephant ride around the camp if you want (inclusive ½ hours ride).
After lunch, proceed visit Home Industries, the highlight is to see local handicraft being hand-made, including silverware, hand-woven silk textiles, hand painted cotton, umbrellas and paper parasols with various designs.
CHIANG MAI - CHIANG RAI - CHIANG MAI (B,L,D)
After breakfast, proceed to Chiang Rai by road along picturesque scenic routes passing several beautiful northern mountains and valleys. Upon arrival, visit Mae Sai at the Myanmese border and the northern most point of Thailand. (Optional to enter Myanmar).
After lunch, proceed to the world famous Golden Triangle where the borders of three countries (Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar) meet.(Optional to enter Laos Island).
Tour continue to visit Long-Neck Hill Tribe Village. The Padaung women famously wear brass rings around their necks. This distorts the growth of their collarbones and makes them look as if they have long necks - which they don't. This row of brass rings does not actually stretch their necks but in fact squash the vertebrae and collar bones. A woman generally has about twenty or more rings around her neck. This neck ring adornment is started when the girls are 5 or 6 years old.
Next, visit Wat Rong Khun, more commonly known as the White Temple. It is a unique and contemporary temple started in 1997. Its striking architecture is designed by the famous Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. After that, enjoy the San Kamphang Hot Spring Bath which is located 36 kilometers from town amidst natural surroundings of trees and verdant hills.
Return back to Chiang Mai for dinner.
