Chiang Mai tour packages & holidays
Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city, is located in northern Thailand. It is smaller than Bangkok, and many visitors like its more relaxing atmosphere. The city has everything that Bangkok offers but on a smaller scale. It is easy to move around, and most major attractions are centrally located in the old city. Chiang Mai is surrounded by mountains and forests, and there are great hiking opportunities in the mountains. Daily flights connect Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai attracts backpackers, tourists, long-term expatriate residents, European and American retirees and Thai massage students. Chiang Mai is the center of northern style traditional Thai massage, and there are many excellent massage schools in the city. Massage treatments are very affordable. The old city is one of the most attractive parts of Chiang Mai, and many cheap guesthouses and restaurants are located here. Chiang Mai is known for its hundreds of Buddhist temples and you can find many of these in the old town. The Sunday Market that takes over the old city is a popular place to buy handicrafts, souvenirs and clothes. The daily Night Bazaar caters mainly for tourists. Many bars and clubs can be found near the Night Bazaar area.
If you are coming to Chiang Mai for a holiday, the best time to visit is from November to February. The climate will be cooler and the air is fresh. March and April are hot, and pollution is a problem in March due to forest fires and the annual burning of agricultural land in the mountains. Chiang Mai is also famous for its celebrations during the Songkran water festival every April. Chiang Mai has a relaxing pace of life and is a beautiful place to visit for at least a few days.
